Deleted Email Recovered

Though not a good practice, I have run into several individuals that rarely delete email from their "Deleted" folder. When I encounter this, I notice that there is typically thousands of emails stored under the "Deleted" folder. After asking, I generally hear that they delete the email and use the "Deleted" folder as an archive.

We received a call from someone who was doing just that for years. Recently, however, they changed a setting so that email was emptied when Outlook Express was closed. The next morning they found that thousands of emails were gone. They contacted SB Consulting in hopes that we could recover their old e-mail.

Although there was no urgency to have access to the old e-mail, they could not be without the computer for any extended time. We determined that performing an image of the existing hard drive would allow us to return the computer promptly and provide us with the necessary time to properly analyze and recover the e-mail.

We received the computer around noon via courier and began imaging the drive. Once we had an image, we returned the computer the same day. We began analyzing the data.

During our evaluation, we determined that we could recover over 6500 e-mail messages with attachments totaling over 1.2GB dating back over 2 years. The e-mail messages were recovered before the end of that day, placed on a CD and delivered to the client.
